OUR PURPOSE:
* To enrich communities by making art of all kinds part of everyday life.
* To foster support for artists, artistic organizations, art education, and to create an environment that promotes art in all its manifestations.
* To organize and promote art events with a goal of economic stability for artists and economic development for the community.
The Red Rock Arts Alliance was formed after a group of citizens of Marion County, Iowa came together in an effort to revitalize the arts community with an aim to promoting and inspiring artists in all mediums and engendering community support for the arts. The group saw that when the arts become a thriving part of communities, the communities themselves become better, stronger, more healthy. They embarked on a program that would foster the artist community, intellectually, economically, artistically and so formed Red Rock Arts Alliance.
Red Rock Arts Alliance has since promoted their aims by offering a free Artist’s Showcase as a venue for local artists – painters, sculpturers, actors, dancers, musicians, writers - to share their work with the community. It was such a success that it became the model upon which the succeeding Showcases of Spring 2006 and Spring and Fall 2007 would be modeled. The Alliance has sponsored and raised funds for four Studio Tours of artists studios in the Red Rock Area as well as hosting Arts Midwest, which brings international music and art groups to Knoxville to share their talents.
The organization has participated in the Knoxville Farmer’s Market by holding artists demonstrations, children’s art projects and live musical and acting productions weekly through the summer. It volunteered to provide an artistic avenue for two other community projects, involving children and young adults in the creative processes, culminating in objects of art that have become recognized as synonymous with the Red Rock Arts Alliance. It participated twice in creating calendars featuring the art of school-age children in the community.
The organization has existed using largely membership fees as a source for operating revenue and relying on the volunteerism of artists and supporters of the arts.
The Alliance has held its fifth annual election of officers and has applied for and received incorporation through the State of Iowa. We are also recognized by the IRS under code 501(c)3 as a charitable organization.
The future is seen as hopeful. The acquisition of a tax-exempt status has enabled the Alliance to seek and obtain broader community donations, acquire grants and charge fees for events where appropriate. It is developing a five year and ten year plan and has aspirations of developing or acquiring physical structures to provide support for the arts, such as studios, coops, boutiques, etc., funding the advancement of the arts and artists themselves wherever possible, and fostering the development of a downtown renovation and resurgence wherein art becomes the backbone of economic development.
The Red Rock Arts Alliance was founded in 2005 and chartered in May 2006. It is organized exclusively for charitable, artistic and educational purposes.
